Enable technology for people, not have people work to use technology.

Q1

Please tell me about your current role at HDE.

My role is to sell existing products to the overseas market and to plan and develop new business. Nothing is fixed in this role, so I basically work on things as things come up.

For example, in November 2017, I spent about three weeks in Bangkok, went to two exhibitions with our Thai members and promoted our existing services. On other days, I pitched our services to prospective customers that were introduced by our local sales partner.
After returning to Japan, I had a meeting with the members from the development and marketing teams who are working on developing our new service. I am currently working on research planning that will be necessary in the future for this product.

Q2

As a member of HDE, what is the most exciting part of your current position?

Firstly, what I do may not be very common and I think the fact that this kind of role exists as a job is appealing.

Secondly, since I think that close collaboration with the management team is indispensable for such entrepreneurial type work, it’s great that at our company the distance between the staff and board members is very close. We work with the board members on a daily basis to complete our tasks.

And finally, because it’s difficult to see short-term outcomes in my role and failing repeatedly is common, it can be tough mentally depending on the environment you’re in. However, since HDE has a culture that welcomes and praises those who challenge and fail, that makes it easier to stay motivated.

In sum, I think our company’s environment makes it easy to do my type of work.

Q3

What kind of culture does HDE have?

How one perceives HDE’s culture will depend on each individual, but for me, it’s appealing because there is practically no pressure to conform. I did not like being pressured into conforming to the idea of how one should act as a “working member of society”, or as a sales individual in my previous company (advice given by mostly well-intended, experienced, older staff). At HDE, this sort of expectations are almost non-existent so I feel that I can work based on my own ideas without feeling anxious.

On the flip side, this means that it is absolutely necessary to work with people that have a totally different worldview and perspective from you. As such, even though we are not restricted, the environment does not allow for us to act only out of self-interest.

Q4

Please tell me about your dreams, ambitions or hope for the future at HDE or in life.

I am not the type to anticipate the future and plan things in advance, so to be honest, I’m not really thinking about much at the moment.

In terms of work, I hope to create a service or business that could be profitable and beneficial for people around the world.

In my personal life, I hope to stay healthy for a long time and work very hard for as long as I can.

Q5

What type of people would you want to work with?

I am happy to work with anyone as long as they are not aggressive or deceptive.

This may not an the obvious answer to the question, but I think that those who are highly motivated and have the ability to perform well but feel out of place in a glamorous environment, or cannot fully demonstrate their skills because they are subjected to certain standards based on some success story of that particular organization they belong to will fit in at HDE.
It would be great if people who join HDE feels happy working here because of the environment I mentioned above.

Q6

What does "Liberation of Technology" mean to you?

My understanding of Liberation of Technology is that it’s not about people working to use technology, but to make technology work for the people.

New technologies are often difficult to adopt, and I think that people are often controlled by technology rather than enjoy the benefits of it. Because of this, they end up working for technology. This is why HDE works hard to take on the burden of those people by experiencing trial and error and have people from all over the world enjoy only the benefits of technology. When we are thinking about launching our new business, we are very aware of this concept.
